Dillons Welcomes Us Home

The first place we stopped coming into town was Dillon’s. My son, Haydon, and I thought a few snacks were on order after driving halfway across the country. We rented our new home over the internet and were quite honestly a little heartbroken at first sight. We were down in the dumps, but Hutchinson immediately came to the rescue.

Walking around the store on 5th and Adams, we ran into multiple customers that said things we hadn’t heard in a long time: “Hello”, “Good afternoon”, “Excuse me”, and “Thank you”. At one point, we were looking at the price of potato chips in shock of the price… Haydon blurts out “That’s cheap?!?”. A sleeveless gentleman who had a gruff appearance, said “You all aren’t from around here – are you?”.

I confessed we had just arrived and were moving from California. We told him that a $1.99 bag of chips brought $5.99 in Southern California. He engaged us in a little banter and humor, then welcomed us to town. Well, that was nice. We grabbed up some other things and for the most part I was happy with the experience, sans the beer selection. Oh my…

Soon we were in Lilliana’s line. She was super pleasant and asked if the beer was liquor. She stated she was underage and got some assistance. While this was happening, we had told the bagger we were new to town. From the back of the line, an older woman shouted “It’s your first time here? Did you find the clearance room? I love the clearance room…” proceeding to give us directions to find it and even offering to wait for her to check out. She was offering to give us a tour of the store!

We politely declined, but left the grocery store much happier than we had arrived. This is what I picture business being. Customers should always leave better than they arrive. Kudos to Lilliana and the Dillon’s crew.

“Buona Sera” Roma Italian Restaurant

I feel like the atmosphere, food, and price at Romas Italian Restaurant is so high-level for Hutchinson that they open themselves up to a higher level of criticism. My hope is that these following words are accepted in the spirit they are offered. Romas is so close and has so much potential to be special.
