Kansas State Fair

Perception is a funny thing. Our new neighbors were apologizing to us for the traffic being so busy… “Sorry for all the traffic. The State Fair is in town.” Obviously, they have no idea of what traffic looks like in Southern California. Anyway… we are here. Let’s check it out.
Man, what a hoot. Haydon and I went to the fair and enjoyed a night out… since our movers were still on the road with all our stuff. We went on a weekend night – near the end of the event. Everyone was super sweet. The young lady who charged us for the tickets was having a long – hot day. It was obvious to the average onlooker – but she still smiled and welcomed us with excitement in her tone.
I thought it was odd they asked for your zip code when you arrived, but it was a dead giveaway when I blurted out “92881”.
In we went. We cycled almost all of the events. In true city slicker niavity I congratulated a gentleman on a great-looking bull. He responded, “Yeah thank you, she won.” Oops. Still, he was gracious and kind in explaining what they had to do to prepare her for showing. We actually met a bull named Atlas, from Cheney. His owners were equally gracious and spent time with us explaining the fair and how it works.
We also took a stab at interviewing some of the participants.
Hanging at the fair was a great family style event. The attendees were respectful, the food was good and the animals always grab my heart. Best of all… it really felt like something that made the move more of an event. Thanks for welcoming us, Hutchinson.
